A free trading journal built for prop firm traders

Why I built FreeTradeJournal after paying for a combine and then paying again to journal it.

If you are in a Topstep combine you already know the pressure. Every trade counts. Every drawdown hurts. The last thing you need is a journal that adds a monthly bill or gets in the way.

That is why I built FreeTradeJournal.

The problem I had

I was a Topstep trader. I wanted to track more than P&L. Patterns, habits, the things that make you consistent. So I tried TradeZella.

It was fine. It was not free. Several things I needed were behind a paywall, and I was already paying for an evaluation. Paying a second subscription just to write down what happened felt wrong.

So I built my own.

What is different

The free plan is a real plan. Unlimited trades, CSV import from your broker, a written journal, goals and risk rules, a calendar heatmap, and one prop firm account in the tracker. There is no trial clock and no card. The free plan shows analytics for the last 30 days and holds 20 journal entries. Pro removes those two limits for $12.99 a month or $99.99 a year. Most journals in this space charge $30 to $50 a month for their entry tier.

Trading dashboard

It is built around evaluation rules. Daily loss limit, max drawdown, profit target. The numbers that matter in a combine sit on the front page instead of buried in a layout designed for stock investors.

Trading journal

It stays out of the way. No upsell every time you log in. Your trades, your stats, your notes.

Spot the pattern before it costs you

The calendar shows your best and worst days at a glance. Two red Fridays in a row is easy to miss in a spreadsheet and impossible to miss here.

Calendar heatmap

Goals and risk rules warn you when a day is getting close to a limit you set for yourself.

Who it is for

Traders with Topstep, FTMO, MyFundedFutures, Apex or any other firm who want to take their performance seriously without another subscription.

It is also for anyone who tried TradeZella, Edgewonk or Tradervue and thought it was too expensive or too complicated for what they actually need.

If your firm is a forex shop like FTMO, the forex trading journal works out pips per pair and takes MT4 and MT5 exports as they come.

Getting started

Create a free account, import your last month of trades, and look at your win rate by session. No card, no trial.
