I Let an AI Coach Read My Trading Journal. Here's What It Caught.

Not magic, not a signal service — just patterns I couldn't see because I was inside them.

I'm skeptical of AI trading anything. Most of it is either a chatbot wearing a trading costume or a "signal service" that would be illegal if it worked. So when I added an AI coach to FreeTradeJournal, I set one rule for it: it only talks about your trades. No predictions, no signals, no "NQ is looking bullish." It reads your journal and tells you what's in it.

That turns out to be the useful version.

What it actually sees

The coach reads your trade history the way a patient human mentor would, if you had one and they had infinite time: every trade's result, the day of the week, the session, the emotions you tagged, what you wrote in your journal next to it.

Then you ask it things. The questions that get interesting are the ones you'd never sit down and compute yourself:

  • "What do my losing days have in common?"
  • "How do I trade on Mondays compared to the rest of the week?"
  • "When I tag a trade 'frustrated', what happens to the next three trades?"

I know my own answers now. My Monday win rate was substantially worse than the rest of my week — enough that skipping Mondays would have been a raise. I'd have told you Mondays "felt slow." I would not have told you they were costing me money, because I genuinely didn't know.

The journal review is the humbling part

There's a second piece: the AI reads your written journal entries next to your actual results and compares the two. What you said against what you did.

Mine caught a pattern I'd have denied if a person accused me of it: on green days I wrote two sentences, on red days I wrote paragraphs of rules for myself — and the rules didn't survive to the next red day. The words and the results didn't match. Seeing that in plain text, sourced from your own entries, lands differently than a trading book telling you "traders lack discipline."

What it costs

Every feature the coach has runs in plain English — if it ever says "expectancy" instead of "what an average trade earns you," that's a bug and I want to know.

Free accounts get 20 AI questions a month, which is plenty for a weekly review habit. Pro removes the ceiling. And if you import a batch of trades, the first AI read of your file is automatic — it's the fastest way to find out what your own data has been trying to tell you.

The honest pitch

An AI coach will not make you profitable. Nothing you can buy will. What it does is compress the feedback loop: patterns that would take you six months of manual review to notice, surfaced in the first conversation. Whether you act on them is still, unfortunately, on you.

Import your trades and ask it something. Start with the Monday question. I'm still annoyed about mine.
